At Yama Kids Yoga, we believe that movement, mindfulness, and kindness are essential for children to thrive in today's fast-paced world. Our mission is to empower the next generation with the tools and skills to navigate the complexities of life with confidence, compassion, and wisdom. Since our founding in 2009, we have been dedicated to sharing the benefits of yoga with children of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
Our Story
Founded by Beth Houghton, a certified yoga teacher with over two decades of experience, Yama Kids Yoga is the culmination of Beth's passion for teaching children the art of yoga. With a background in film, technology, teaching, and non-profit work, Beth has always been driven by a desire to share the transformative power of yoga with children. Her program, Bendy Berry Yoga, was born in 2009, and since then, she has worked with over 2,000 kids, witnessing firsthand the profound impact of yoga on their lives.
Our Principles
At Yama Kids Yoga, we believe that movement, mindfulness, and kindness are the keys to unlocking a child's full potential. Our program is carefully designed to introduce children to the basics of yoga, including breathing, postures, and meditation. We emphasize the importance of respecting each child's natural rhythm and energy, guiding them towards stillness, mindfulness, and fun. By incorporating breathwork, postures, and meditation, we help children develop essential life skills, such as self-awareness, self-regulation, and self-compassion.
Our Curriculum
Our Yama Kids Yoga curriculum is built around the five principles of yoga, also known as the Yamas. Ahimsa (non-violence), Satya (truthfulness), Asteya (non-stealing), Brahmacharya (non-excess), and Aparigraha (non-possessiveness) form the foundation of our program. We believe that teaching children these fundamental principles of yoga helps them develop a deeper understanding of themselves, others, and the world around them.
Our Teachers
Our team of certified yoga teachers is dedicated to creating a supportive and engaging environment for children to learn and grow. With a passion for teaching and a deep understanding of the benefits of yoga for children, our teachers strive to inspire and empower young minds.
