Our Story
San Diego was California's first wine county, with a rich history dating back to 1769 when Father Junipero Serra established California's first mission in San Diego de Alcala. Grapes have been grown in the area since the 1970s, initially at the San Pasqual Winery and later at Thomas Jaeger Winery. Orfila Vineyards and Winery was established in 1993 when Proprietor Ambassador Alejandro Orfila purchased Thomas Jaeger Winery.
Our Vineyards
Orfila Vineyards is a 70-acre estate that grows premium wine grapes in the San Pasqual Valley. The estate is located in a 10,000-acre agricultural preserve owned by the City of San Diego, providing a unique terroir that combines cool ocean breezes and morning fog to create classic wine-growing conditions. Our extensive research and experimentation have resulted in the current successful vineyard configuration.
Our Winemaking
Our winemaker, Andrew Wisniewski, carries on the tradition of making award-winning wines in San Diego County. We produce critically acclaimed wines using Italian and French varietals, including those from the Rhone Valley, Burgundy, and Bordeaux. We source our grapes from both our estate and select vineyards from Sonoma, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Barbara Counties.
