The Takemusu Aikido Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the art of Aikido, as founded by Morihei Ueshiba, O-Sensei. Our organization is committed to preserving the traditional teaching and training methods of O-Sensei, as passed down to us by his longest direct disciple, Morihiro Saito, Shihan.
What Is Aikido?
Aikido is a Japanese martial art that was founded by Morihei Ueshiba in the early 20th century. The name Aikido is derived from the Japanese characters AI, which means "to unite, " KI, which means "spirit, " and DO, which means "way" or "path." Aikido is a holistic martial art that embodies the principles of harmony, balance, and inner peace. It is a powerful yet gentle art that seeks to unify the body, mind, and spirit.
What Is Takemusu Aikido?
Takemusu Aikido is the highest form of Aikido as taught by Morihei Ueshiba. The term "Takemusu" is derived from the Japanese characters Take, which means "martial, " and Musu, which means "to be born." Takemusu Aikido is a higher level of Aikido that is characterized by fluid movement, spontaneity, and harmony. It is an art that seeks to cultivate the individual's inner energy and to harmonize the body, mind, and spirit.
About the Takemusu Aikido Association
The Takemusu Aikido Association is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the development and dissemination of Aikido. Our organization is committed to promoting the traditional teaching and training methods of O-Sensei, as passed down to us by Morihiro Saito, Shihan. We are an association of dojos, clubs, and individuals who have a common interest in Aikido. We function for the mutual benefit of our members, serve as a center of support to our members, and promote Aikido nationally and internationally.
Leadership
Our organization is managed by a Board of Directors of Senior Instructors. Our Board members take turns volunteering to fill the administrative roles of President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Our Chief Instructor is Bill Witt Shihan, and our Assistant Chief Instructor is H. Hoa Newens Shihan. We also have a President, Aviv Goldsmith Sensei, a Treasurer, Tom Rennie Sensei, and a Secretary, Zach Hymanson Sensei. All of our leadership team members have many years of Aikido experience and have trained with the highest levels of instructors in the world.
