Our Mission
The Pain Psychology Center operates as a Benefit Corporation with a profound mission: to empower individuals to overcome chronic pain through targeted psychotherapy. We believe that chronic pain is often rooted in psychological and cognitive factors, rather than structural abnormalities. Through innovative therapeutic interventions, we aim to rewire neural pathways and alleviate suffering.
What We Do
We offer a comprehensive approach to treating chronic pain, utilizing a variety of evidence-based therapy techniques. Our experienced therapists help clients:
- Identify and modify unhelpful thought patterns
- Develop coping mechanisms for managing pain
- Reprocess traumatic experiences that may be contributing to pain
- Improve their overall well-being and quality of life
Our Techniques
Our therapists employ diverse therapeutic approaches, including:
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT): to identify and modify unhelpful thought patterns
- Psychodynamic therapy: to explore past experiences and their influence on current pain
- Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP): for rapid symptom reduction and transformation
- Hypnotherapy: to directly affect the subconscious mind and release pain patterns
- Guided meditation: to cultivate mindfulness and reduce stress
- Mindfulness training: to develop present-moment awareness and reduce pain
- Dual brain therapy: to rewire neural pathways associated with pain
Beyond Therapy
Our commitment extends beyond traditional therapy. We:
- Research and develop innovative treatment protocols
- Train healthcare professionals in our evidence-based approaches
- Educate the public about the role of mind and body connection in pain management
