A discipline for perfecting the spirit

Welcome to Aikido of Nassau County, a traditional Japanese martial art dedicated to promoting harmony and unity within ourselves and with the world around us. Established in 1991, our dojo is a member of the United States Aikido Federation (USAF) and has been serving the community for over three decades.

Aikido: A Path to Unity and Harmony

Aikido, meaning "the way of unity with the fundamental force of the universe, " is a martial art that goes beyond mere self-defense techniques. It is a holistic practice that emphasizes harmony, balance, and cooperation. Our founder, Morihei Ueshiba, also known as O'Sensei, envisioned Aikido as a way to bring people together, to promote peace, and to overcome discord.

Benefits of Aikido

Practicing Aikido can bring numerous benefits to one's life, including increased flexibility, improved balance and coordination, enhanced mental focus, and reduced stress. Whether you're seeking a physical challenge or a spiritual connection, Aikido offers a unique and rewarding experience.

Our Training

At Aikido of Nassau County, we offer classes for students of all ages and skill levels. Our experienced instructors, led by Shihan Joseph Nemeth, will guide you through a comprehensive training program that combines physical techniques, breathing exercises, and meditation to cultivate inner balance and harmony.

Class Schedule

We offer classes six days a week, with a variety of schedules to accommodate different needs and preferences. Our classes are designed to improve flexibility, balance, and coordination, while also promoting mental focus, self-awareness, and overall well-being.

Equipment and Attire

We recommend wearing a practice uniform, known as a gi, for all training sessions. Soft-soled shoes are recommended, and please avoid wearing short shorts or revealing clothing. A karate gi or judo gi is acceptable, but a judo gi may last longer.

Trailering a Class

If you're new to Aikido or curious about our classes, we invite you to try a trial class. Our friendly instructors will provide guidance and assistance to help you get started. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the class to get settled and prepared.

We also offer seminars and testing opportunities to help you progress in your Aikido journey. These events provide valuable instruction and practice to enhance your skills and knowledge.

Instructors

Our dojo is led by Shihan Joseph Nemeth, a renowned Aikido instructor with over 50 years of experience. Nemeth Sensei has trained in Judo and Aikido, and is certified at the highest level by the World Aikido Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.
