Dyer Straits Wine

At Dyer Vineyards, we take immense pride in being a family-owned and operated winery located on the picturesque Diamond Mountain in Napa Valley. Our story began over two decades ago when Bill and Dawnine Dyer planted their 2.3-acre vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. We are blessed with an exceptional terroir, where our vines dig deep into volcanic soils, producing wines renowned for their concentration, intensity, and ageability.

Our Winemaking Philosophy

Our winemaking approach is rooted in tradition and a deep respect for the land. We handcraft our wines using classic methods, and our annual production is limited to less than 300 cases. Our sustainable farming practices include using organic sprays to prevent mildew and weed whackers instead of herbicides - we live here after all. We believe that wine is a reflection of the land, and our goal is to preserve the essence of Napa Valley's extraordinary terroir.

Our Wine

Our wine, Dyer Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, is a celebration of California's rich wine-making history. This iconic Napa Valley wine is a testament to the region's exceptional terroir and the dedication of our winemakers, Bill and Dawnine Dyer. With over 80 years of combined winemaking experience, they bring a unique perspective and expertise to every aspect of our winemaking process.

Our Story

Bill Dyer spent 20 years at Sterling Vineyards, where he rose through the ranks from Cellarmaster to Winemaker. He was instrumental in developing Sterling's single-vineyard wines, including a Cabernet from Diamond Mountain that received widespread acclaim. Since 1996, Bill has brought his expertise to consulting, working with esteemed wineries such as Miramar Torres Estate, Sodaro Winery, and Frogs' Leap Winery.

Dawnine Dyer, meanwhile, spent 25 years as Winemaker at Domaine Chandon, where she introduced innovative sparkling wines and wine styles. She was instrumental in the construction of Sodaro Winery and made their first 8 vintages. Alongside Bill, Dawnine is a partner in the award-winning Meteor Vineyard and works closely with Bill on Dyer Vineyard.

Our Label

Our label is inspired by a mural we saw while traveling in Tibet in 1998. The artwork was created by San Francisco Illustrator John Mattos from a photo of the painting, depicting the Diamond Mountains featured in the Diamond Sutra, one of the Buddhist scriptures. This profound and majestic image not only reflects our winery's spirit but also serves as a reminder of the importance of our connection to the land and our commitment to preserving Napa Valley's extraordinary terroir.
