Empowering Relationships, One Conversation at a Time

I am Sara Alexander, a dedicated and experienced marriage and family therapist based in the vibrant city of San Francisco. With a master's degree in Holistic Psychology from Antioch West University SF and a license to practice as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT 22719) since 1986, I have devoted my life to helping individuals and couples navigate the complexities of life and relationships. My practice is built on the foundation of empathy, respect, and a deep understanding of the intricate dynamics of human relationships and personal growth.

Humble Beginnings and a Passion for Understanding Human Nature

I was born in 1947 and raised in suburban Detroit, where I developed a keen interest in understanding human nature. This interest was further nurtured during my years in Europe and the US, where I earned a BFA in Painting from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design. A significant turning point in my life was my chance encounter with psychotherapy while living in Paris. This experience opened my eyes to a whole new understanding of reality, sparking a lifelong passion for exploring the depths of human consciousness and the factors that shape our self-concept, relationships, and lives.

A Rich Tapestry of Experiences and Expertise

Having lived in France and Italy and having grown up during the Vietnam War, the sexual revolution, and the Feminist movement, I have developed a unique perspective on how cultural contexts and family dynamics shape individual experiences and relationships. My postgraduate studies, personal experiences, and work with clients have continuously deepened my understanding and expertise in the realm of psychotherapy. I have pursued extensive training in couples' therapy, and I am well-equipped to help individuals and couples navigate the challenges and opportunities that arise in their relationships.
