The Liberation Institute (Libi) is a grassroots non-profit mental health organization based in San Francisco and Portland. We are a community-driven organization, co-created by counselors, psychotherapists, mindfulness teachers, artists, and activists who serve the diverse communities we are part of. Our mission is to address the gaps in the accessibility of professional support for issues related to mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. We strive to achieve this with a fresh, open-minded, compassionate, inclusive, and creative approach.
Our journey began when Steven "Stever" Dallmann, inspired by his frustration with managed care, health insurance, public health bureaucracy, and other institutional structures that created obstacles for people in their paths to healing, growth, and freedom, founded Libi. Since our inception, we have been dedicated to providing counseling and psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, families, and groups, and offering an array of innovative therapeutic programs and workshops, along with weekly integral services focused on stress reduction such as yoga and meditation classes.
The Libi Team: Diversity, Inclusion, and Liberation for All
The Libi team is a diverse group of mental health professionals and volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in the world. Our team members come from various backgrounds, experiences, and expertise, allowing us to serve the full range of diversity across California and Oregon, from technology executives to economically disadvantaged people.
At Libi, we believe in inclusivity and accessibility. We operate under the motto "liberation for all" and embrace each person with equal compassion, understanding that those who can pay a little bit more are helping themselves by helping others. The rest of our considerable operating expenses are covered by grants and donations from generous individuals and organizations who understand the true value of our work and wish to support our efforts.
Caring and Professional Counseling for Everyone
Libi offers professional counseling and psychotherapy for adults, youth, children, families, and groups. Our licensed clinicians and interns provide a co-creative, compassionate, open-minded, and holistic approach to therapy, tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual and group.
We offer confidential and non-judgmental consultations, ensuring that no one is ever turned away for lack of funds. Our sliding scale fees make therapy and services accessible to the entire community, and we are committed to offering therapy and services to everyone, regardless of their financial situation.
We understand that seeking counseling can be a challenging step, and we are here to support you every step of the way. We offer a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where you can express yourself, heal, and grow.
Group Therapy: Safe, Facilitated, and Online
Libi hosts a variety of safe, facilitated, and online groups, each designed with a specific focus to support individuals in different stages of their healing journey.
