At Eli Howard Surf School, we live for surf, and we've shared our passion for surfing with thousands of people since 1999. Our surfing lessons are ideal for beginners who want to learn to surf, and we offer intermediate and advanced surf instruction to hone the skills of any surfer.

Our History

Eli Howard Surf School began in 1999, when brothers Greg and Mike Kessler founded the school. Growing up in North San Diego County, they developed a passion for surfing at a young age. After attending a surf school and aquatic camp at Mission Bay, they knew they'd be surfers for life. With a deep appreciation for the ocean and a desire to share that enthusiasm with others, they founded Eli Howard Surf School.

Since then, we've taught thousands of people to surf, offering day surf camps for kids and adults alike. Our instructors are experienced in teaching surfing and outdoor skills, having worked as river guides and whitewater rafters. Our goal is to provide the finest quality surfing lessons, surf camps, and outdoor experiences possible.

Our Services

We offer a range of services to suit every surfing need. Choose from private or group lessons, semi-private lessons, or join one of our Morning Surf Camps for Kids. Our day surf camps are designed for everyone, with a focus on fun and safety. With our small 3:1 student-to-instructor ratio, our instructors provide personalized attention to ensure each student learns and progresses at their own pace.

Our Locations

Our surf camps and private lessons are held at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, California. Our prime San Diego beach location offers world-class surfing breaks and stunning ocean views. We're just a short drive from San Diego, Orange, and Los Angeles counties, making us easily accessible from surrounding areas.
