What is Counseling?

Counseling is a collaborative process that requires a strong therapeutic relationship between the client and therapist. During your first visit, you will be asked questions about why you sought therapy, your health, past history, and current symptoms. Being open and honest is crucial to providing you with the best possible care. It's also important for you to ask questions and seek to understand the therapy process. At LifeNow Counseling, we believe that informed clients are more likely to be comfortable and productive in their therapy sessions.

It's important to understand that therapy is not a quick fix, but a process. It takes time to get to where you want to be, just as it took time to get to where you are now. Your therapist may also assign homework, which can be an essential part of your treatment and healing. You will also work on setting goals, which will help keep you motivated and focused on your progress.

Counseling can bring up unpleasant memories or emotions, and there are no guarantees that it will work for everyone. Progress may be slow, and there may be setbacks along the way. However, with a very active effort on your part, you can increase your chances of success. You will need to work on things we discuss outside of sessions to achieve the best results.

Benefits of Counseling

Counseling can offer many benefits, but the specific benefits will vary from person to person. You can expect to discuss current events happening in your life, your personal history, and progress from therapy sessions. Counseling can be short-term or long-term, depending on each person's specific needs. However, weekly sessions on a regular basis are most common.

At LifeNow Counseling, we believe that taking an active role in the therapy process is essential to achieving the best results. Ultimately, the goal of therapy is to help you learn to live life in the present moment, where you are now, rather than ruminating on the past or worrying about the future. We will help you develop methods of managing anger, depression, and unhealthy patterns, break old behaviors, and develop new ones. We will also help you learn skills for improving relationships and quality of life.
