The Origin of Krav Maga

Krav Maga (Hebrew for "contact-combat") was initially developed by Imi Sde-Or (also known as Imi Lichtenfeld) in the 1930s. As a former boxer, wrestler, and gymnast, Imi was inspired to create a self-defense system that civilians could use to defend themselves against fascist bullies in Europe. He later adapted and refined his techniques for use by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), combining the best aspects of Aikido, Judo, Muay Thai, Boxing, Savate, wrestling, and street fighting. Today, Krav Maga is employed by militaries, law enforcement agencies, and civilians worldwide due to its focus on real-world situations, extreme efficiency, brutal counter-attacks, speed, leverage, and the element of surprise.
