Welcome to Oshiro Dojo, the world headquarters of the Ryukyu Bujutsu Kenkyu Doyukai (RBKD), an international organization dedicated to the study and development of traditional Okinawan martial arts. Our dojo is located in San Mateo, California, and is led by our esteemed Shihan, Toshihiro Oshiro.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a friendly and non-competitive environment where students of all ages and skill levels can come together to learn and practice the traditional Okinawan martial arts of Shima-Ha Shorin-ryu Karate and Yamanni-ryu Kobudo. Our experienced instructors have spent decades studying and teaching martial arts, and are dedicated to helping their students develop physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Our History
Oshiro Dojo was founded by Shihan Oshiro in 1978, after he emigrated from his native Okinawa to teach karate in the United States. Over the next 40 years, Shihan Oshiro trained hundreds of students from across the country and around the world at his Northern California dojos. In 2019, Shihan Oshiro appointed his longtime student, Daiki Takekawa, as the head instructor of Oshiro Dojo San Mateo. Sensei Takekawa has trained with Shihan Oshiro for over 25 years and is committed to continuing the tradition of teaching and developing Okinawan martial arts.
Our Services
At Oshiro Dojo, we offer a variety of classes and services to meet the needs of our students. Our classes include:
- In-person group classes for kids and adults, focusing on karate and kobudo techniques, forms, and sparring
- Private lessons with our experienced instructors
- Regular belt promotion tests for qualified students
- Trial packages for new students, including a training uniform and four group classes

Our Facilities
Our dojo is located in San Mateo, California, and offers a clean, well-maintained space for our students to train. We have a small studio area for individual and small group instruction, as well as a larger practice area for more advanced training and testing.
