At Village Preschool, we believe that childhood is a sacred and precious time that deserves to be respected and protected. Inspired by the Waldorf education philosophy founded by Rudolf Steiner, we strive to create a nurturing and rhythmic environment that fosters the growth and development of preschool-aged children.
Our Environment
Our preschool is located in a beautiful and historic farmhouse in Santa Cruz, California, surrounded by gardens and a lush landscape that provides an excellent growing environment. Our daily routines are designed to create secure vessels for children, providing a sense of security and familiarity, as well as opportunities for imaginative play, practical work, and age-appropriate curriculum.
Our Staff
Our head teacher, Griselda Pineda, has a degree in Early Childhood Education from Cabrillo College and is currently completing her Waldorf training. With over ten years of experience, Griselda is bilingual and assists Spanish language programs at the Santa Cruz Waldorf School. She is also a mother of four children and enjoys cooking and dancing.
Our Teaching Philosophy
At Village Preschool, we believe that children learn best through experiential learning, imitation, and imaginative play. Our teachers are trained to generate enthusiasm for learning in each child and encourage a reverence for the world and an understanding that it is a good place to live. Our daily routines include circle time, artistic work, free playtime, and practical tasks, with some rhythmic variation.
Enrollment
We offer a preschool program that runs from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with an optional aftercare program from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Our program provides children with healthy snacks and lunch during preschool, and afternoon snack in the afternoon. Unfortunately, our program is currently full, and we are unable to accept new students. For more information, please contact us.
