Our History
VIE Winery, San Francisco's oldest winery, was established in 2004 by Bryan Kane. With a small group of friends who shared the same passion for wine, they set out to create high-quality, unique Rhone varietal wines. Over the years, these friends developed a keen sense of the attributes that make a fine boutique wine. The team's focus is on producing wines that reflect these attributes for each of the top California vineyards from which they acquire their grapes.
The name VIE, derived from the Old French word meaning "to invite" or "to give occasion for", reflects the philosophy of enjoying life with friends and experiences. The team at VIE Winery embraces this philosophy and hopes to convey it through their wines.
Our Philosophy
VIE Winery prides itself on using traditional "old world" family wine making techniques to ensure that the unique qualities of the grapes are reflected in the wine, making each bottle a unique drinking experience. These techniques take more time and produce less wine, but the end result is a wine that can be enjoyed now as well as cellared for many years to come.
Our Team
*Bryan Kane, Founder*
Bryan Kane started VIE Winery with a small group of friends who shared the same passion for wine. With several years of enjoying, collecting and making wine, he has developed a refined sense of the attributes that make a fine boutique wine.
*Todd Seaver, Winemaker*
Todd Seaver, head winemaker at VIE Winery, joined the operation as assistant winemaker in 2005. With a focus on delivering a wine that is delicious to drink alone but also a great accompaniment to a meal, Todd works closely with mainly cool-climate sites, focusing on Rhone varietals as well as Zinfandel. Todd remained focused on the food/wine relationship throughout his winemaking career.
