"Lose your mind and come to your senses." - Fritz Perls
My name is Shushanik Karapetyan, and I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) dedicated to helping individuals cultivate greater self-awareness, navigate life's challenges, and unlock their true potential.
My approach to therapy is rooted in the belief that every individual possesses inherent strength, wisdom, and resilience. I warmly welcome all aspects of who you are, without judgment or expectation. Whether you're struggling with difficult emotions, grappling with past experiences, or seeking personal growth, I strive to create a safe and nurturing space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Therapeutic Approach
I employ a client-centered approach, collaborating with you to identify your unique needs and develop personalized therapeutic strategies. My therapeutic toolbox encompasses a variety of modalities, including:
- Integrative Bodywork: I believe the mind and body are interconnected, and I often incorporate body awareness exercises into sessions. By tuning into bodily sensations, we can gain a deeper understanding of how emotions and experiences manifest physically.
- Dreamwork: Dreams can offer profound insights into our subconscious mind. I encourage exploration of dream imagery and symbolism to uncover hidden meanings and foster self-discovery.
- Guided Imagery: Through guided visualizations, we can access a state of deep relaxation and explore inner landscapes, promoting healing and emotional regulation.
- Chair Work: This technique involves symbolically embodying different parts of oneself, allowing for greater insight into internal conflicts and promoting integration.
Areas of Specialization
I have a particular passion for working with:
- Adults in Creative Fields:
I understand the unique challenges and rewards of pursuing creative professions. I offer a supportive space for artists, writers, actors, and musicians to explore their artistic impulses, process creative blocks, and navigate the complexities of their creative journeys.
- Women's Mental Health: I provide a safe and affirming environment for women to explore issues related to identity, relationships, career, pregnancy, postpartum, and motherhood. I specialize in addressing the mother/daughter dynamic and the impact of cultural and societal expectations on women's lives.
- Individuals Navigating Dual Cultures or Identities: I work with individuals who identify with multiple cultures or navigate complex family dynamics. I help clients process cultural identity conflicts, find harmony within their diverse backgrounds, and build strong and authentic relationships.
Commitment to Client Wellbeing
My practice operates with a limited caseload (currently fifteen clients), allowing me to provide dedicated attention and personalize the therapeutic experience. This approach ensures that each client receives the highest quality care and support. If I am unable to accept new clients at this time, I can offer guidance and referrals to other therapists who share a similar therapeutic approach.
Session Fee and Policies
My standard individual session fee is $200 for 45 minutes, $280 for a 60-minute couples session, and $80 for a 90-minute group session. Payment is due at the time of each session. I am an out-of-network provider, and clients may be eligible for partial reimbursement from their insurance company. I am happy to provide the necessary documentation to facilitate this process.
