Our Story

For over 140 years, El Molino Winery has been a pioneer in the Napa Valley wine industry, with a rich history dating back to 1871. Founded by Colonel W.W. Lyman, the winery has been family-owned and operated since its inception. Our dedication to traditional winemaking techniques and commitment to producing high-quality wines have earned us a reputation as one of the region's premier wineries.

Our Heritage

Our journey began when Dr. Edward Turner Bale, an English physician, landed in Monterey in 1837. He practiced medicine in California for five years before moving to Napa Valley, where he obtained a four-league grant of Rancho Carne Humana in 1841. Later, Bale began construction on a water-powered grist mill, which served as the focal point for the settlement of the Napa Valley. This milling operation was a central hub for the production of wheat and its milling into flour.

Our Production

Our limited production of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay using traditional winemaking techniques is done to perfection in our cellar conditions. Our Pinot Noir punchdown process is a key part of our unique winemaking approach. Our wine cellar is an original 1871 design, and we are proud to maintain its traditional charm.

Our Cellar

Our cellar, built in 1871, features a unique blend of traditional and modern wine-making techniques. The cellar is ideal for the production of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with perfect conditions for fermentation and aging. Our dedication to traditional winemaking methods ensures the highest quality of our wines.

Our Vineyards

Our vineyards are carefully managed to produce the finest grapes for our wines. With a focus on traditional vineyard practices and sustainable farming methods, we maintain a strong commitment to environmental stewardship. Our vineyards are planted with a variety of grapes, including Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay.

Our Legacy

As one of the oldest wineries in the Napa Valley, El Molino Winery is proud of its rich history and heritage. We are honored to carry on the tradition of wine-making excellence that has been passed down through generations. Our dedication to producing high-quality wines has earned us a reputation as one of the region's premier wineries.
