Established in 1882, Spottswoode Estate is a family-owned wine estate that has been in operation for over 140 years. Our estate is deeply rooted in the history of the Napa Valley, with the estate's original owners, George and Catherine Schonewald, purchasing 31 acres of fertile land in St. Helena, California. Over the years, the estate has undergone several ownership changes, with Mary and Jack Novak acquiring the property in 1972. Today, Spottswoode Estate is led by the Novak family, with Mary Novak's descendants playing a crucial role in the estate's operations.

Our Organic Vineyard
As one of the pioneers of organic farming in the Napa Valley, Spottswoode Estate has been farming organically since 1985. In 1992, we acquired California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) certification, a recognition of our commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices. In 2020, we took a significant step forward by acquiring biodynamic certification, acknowledging the estate's extensive efforts to create a thriving ecosystem within the vineyard.
