Youth Arts Programs for Social Change
Founded in 2003, Writer's Block InK has dedicated itself to empowering youth through the transformative power of the arts. Our organization provides comprehensive creative workshops that foster teamwork, accountability, and responsibility, enabling young people to develop original theatrical and performance pieces addressing critical social issues. Through facilitated sessions led by experienced teaching artists, participants gain self-confidence, leadership skills, and a platform to amplify their voices. Our alumni have become educators, entrepreneurs, and community leaders, reinvesting their talents in New London County and beyond. With programs including after-school workshops, summer initiatives, and the Morgan J. Penn Scholarship for Leadership in Social Change, we continue to cultivate a new generation of socially conscious artists and thinkers.

Our interdisciplinary approach combines acting, dance, creative writing, and technical theater skills to create full-scale productions that spark community dialogue. As a youth-led organization, we prioritize collaborative creation and community engagement, ensuring young voices remain at the forefront of our mission. Our commitment to accessibility is reflected in our open application process for scholarships and our inclusive programming designed for diverse artistic abilities. By bridging artistic expression with social advocacy, we equip participants with tools to challenge systemic inequities and drive meaningful change. This enduring legacy of creative empowerment has impacted thousands of youth and employed over 100 alumni in leadership roles within our organization.
