At Oliver Martial Arts (OMA), we are a family-oriented and family-owned Martial Arts Academy located in Riverview, Florida, serving the Riverview, Valrico, and Brandon areas. Our purpose is to teach our students of all ages to be strong leaders with integrity. We strive to instill the values of martial arts, not only for physical fitness and self-defense but also for character development and personal growth.

Our History

Our martial arts journey began over 30 years ago, with Shihan Cecilio Ortega, our mentor and instructor, who has over 40 years of experience in Karate-Do Shotokan. Shihan Ortega oversees academies in Panama, Argentina, New York City, and Florida, and continues to train our Sensei, Rafael Oliver, in Shotokan, weapons, and self-defense. We are also members of the International San Ten Karate Association (ISKA) and the American Federation of Martial Arts (AFMA).

Our Team

Our team consists of experienced instructors, Sensei Rafael Oliver, Senpai Ian, Senpai Carolyn, and Senpai Rafi. Sensei Raphael Oliver is a pioneer in martial arts, with degrees in Naval Engineering, Theology, and Education. He holds a Black Belt certification in Shotokan Karate-do and is an ordained minister. Senpai Ian holds a BS degree in Film Production and a minor in Communications, and Senpai Carolyn has a BS in Elementary Education and a MS in Special Education. Senpai Rafi has a Shodan rank in Shotokan Karate-do and has competed in national tournaments.
