Great Lakes Brewing Company (GLBC), located in the heart of Cleveland, Ohio, is a testament to the spirit of innovation, sustainability, and community involvement. Founded in 1988 by brothers Patrick and Daniel Conway, GLBC has grown to become a significant player in the craft beer industry, providing award-winning brews to 14 states and Washington D.C. Proudly independent and employee-owned since 2018, GLBC's refreshing lineup includes a variety of beers that cater to diverse palates, whether you're a seasoned hop head or a newcomer to the world of craft brews.
Our History
The GLBC story began in the Ohio City neighborhood when the Conway brothers opened the brewpub in 1988. With a relentless pursuit of quality and innovation, Dortmunder Gold Lager earned GLBC its first gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 1990. This early success laid the foundation for expansion, and in 1992, the brewery moved to a new 30 bbl. brewhouse, allowing for regional distribution.
Iconic GLBC beers, such as Christmas Ale and Oktoberfest, have delighted fans for decades. The brewery has consistently ranked among the top 20 craft breweries in the United States, producing over 100,000 bbls per year.
In 2018, GLBC co-workers became employee-owners through the establishment of an Employee Stock Ownership Plan, further strengthening the company's commitment to its community.
Our Beers
GLBC offers an impressive selection of beers to cater to every taste preference. From year-round favorites like Dortmunder Gold Lager, Hazecraft IPA, and Edmund Fitzgerald Porter to seasonal offerings like Christmas Ale and Oktoberfest, there is always something new and exciting to try.
GLBC also boasts an innovative limited release and pub-exclusive lineup, allowing the brewers to showcase their creativity and explore new styles and ingredients. With options ranging from barrel-aged stouts to hazy IPAs and fruit-forward sours, GLBC's beers are perfect for every occasion.
Brewpub and Visitor Experience
The GLBC brewpub offers an inviting atmosphere where patrons can enjoy freshly brewed beer and a delicious, locally-sourced menu. Guided tours of the brewery allow visitors to learn about the brewing process, GLBC's history, and its commitment to sustainability.
In addition, GLBC hosts various events and festivals that support the community, such as Burning River Fest, which raises awareness and funds for clean water initiatives. GLBC's dedication to brewing good beer and fostering positive change extends beyond the brewery's walls, making it an integral part of the Cleveland community.
