Caris is a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been serving women facing unplanned pregnancies since 1985. Our mission is to help women and children thrive during and after unplanned pregnancies, and we are committed to providing open, non-judgmental support to any woman, regardless of her faith background or the decision she makes about her pregnancy.
At Caris, we understand that an unplanned pregnancy can feel overwhelming. That's why we are dedicated to providing a safe and confidential space where women can find the support and resources they need to make informed decisions about their pregnancies. We are committed to showing the love of God to each and every person who comes through our doors by extending grace, compassion, and respect.
Our organization has a rich history of serving women and children during unplanned pregnancies. In 1985, four Christian women founded Caris with a vision to offer a compassionate and trusted place for women facing unplanned pregnancies. Over the years, we have evolved and grown to meet the changing needs of the women and families we serve. In 2006, we shifted our model to focus on both the woman and child involved in an unplanned pregnancy, and in 2009, we began employing counselors with a master's degree in a counseling field. In 2011, we moved into our current headquarters in the Chicago Loop, and in 2012, we adopted the Prograce Approach. In 2016, we created the C25 Project, which extends resources and support to women and children until the child's 5th birthday.
Our Services
At Caris, we offer a range of services to support women and children during and after unplanned pregnancies. Our services include:
- Pregnancy Counseling Services: We provide free pregnancy tests and counseling by a master's level counselor. We also offer limited no-cost ultrasounds to confirm pregnancy viability. All of our services are completely confidential.
- Mental Health Services: Our mental health services are designed to support individuals and couples who are facing extended counseling needs related to unplanned pregnancy and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Our services are provided by master's level counselors who are trained to support the unique needs of women and couples facing unplanned pregnancies.
- Pregnancy Counseling Services: We offer pregnancy counseling services to support women through the decision-making process and beyond. Our services include one-on-one counseling, support groups, and education on pregnancy and parenting.
- C25 Program Services: Our C25 services are designed to provide tangible support and resources to women, children (up to age 5) and their families. We offer practical resources like diapers, clothing, and baby gear, as well as education and support to help parents thrive.
- Workshops and Events: We offer a variety of workshops and events throughout the year to provide education, support, and community for women and families. Our workshops cover topics like pregnancy, parenting, and mental health, and are designed to meet the unique needs of our clients.
