Giving Children A Natural Start
At Hunters Woods Cooperative Preschool, we believe that children learn best through play. Our play-based, nature-inspired, and family-participation preschool is designed to encourage preschool-aged children (2, 3, 4, and 5 year olds) to develop a sense of worthiness, a sense of ability, a sensitivity towards others and the world around them.
Our Philosophy of Learning
We value the active involvement of parents in our program, both through committee and classroom participation. We believe that parents are an integral part of the school, which allows for lots of one-on-one attention and keeps tuition rates low. Our cooperative model has allowed us to build a strong sense of community amongst the students, parents, families, and teachers.
Nature Inspires
Children are naturally curious about their surroundings, and they are intrigued by water, soil, plants, and animals they discover in the natural world. Through exposure to natural elements and experiences in and with nature, children learn to care more deeply about nature and conservation, while at the same time building independence, self-confidence, strength, endurance, determination, social skills, problem-solving skills, resilience, and friendship.
Cooperation is Key
We believe that family participation is crucial to a child's education. A cooperative preschool gives families the opportunity to be intimately involved with their child's education, which studies show contributes to future academic success. Our cooperative model allows for strong bonding between parents and children, creates a sense of community, provides family education, and can give you a wonderful connection with your child.
Play is Learning
We believe that play is a vital part of a child's learning experience. Imaginative play engages children and allows them time to try out new ideas and develop a sense of their place in the world. Through play, children build language and vocabulary skills, social skills, physical abilities, and problem-solving proficiency. We strive to balance structure and free-choice, as well as active and quiet times, while encouraging play and exploration.
Our Programs
We offer a variety of programs to suit the needs of our students and their families. Our programs include:
- Koalas Morning Class (3/4 yo; co-op)
- Rabbits Afternoon Class (4/5 yo; co-op)
- Stay & Play (2 yo; with caregiver)
Giving Children a Natural Start
We believe that early childhood education should be rooted in nature and a sense of community. Our emergent curriculum gives children experiences with and in nature, and is responsive to individual and group interests, needs, and abilities. We provide the children with materials and equipment, along with time, space, and guidance to support their individual development.
