Our Instructors

Our instructors are local, professional musicians who are dedicated to helping you achieve your musical goals. They all hold music degrees or have equivalent work experience, and they have passed a national background check. We carefully select our instructors based on their education, experience, and passion for teaching. They are all experienced performers and are eager to share their expertise with you.

Services Offered

We offer private, one-on-one music instruction for all instruments and all ages in the convenience of your own home. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced musician, we have a teacher who can help you improve your skills and reach your full potential. We offer lessons for the following instruments:

The In-Home Model

We believe in the in-home model of music instruction for several reasons. First, students are accustomed to practicing on their own instrument, so it makes sense for the lessons to take place on the same instrument, especially with piano and other large instruments. Second, racing through traffic to arrive on time to lessons can be a challenge in and of itself! It is an absolute luxury to have your teacher come to you. Third, peace of mind knowing your child is at home where you can monitor, and even listen to the lesson if you would like. Safety is our number one priority, and we feel safe knowing our parents are able to observe their child's lessons.

Our Story

Traveling Music Lessons was founded in 2017 in Phoenix, AZ, under the direction of two sisters, Leah and Tess Halonen. Given the overwhelming popularity of the in-home lessons model, TML has grown into a national music school, specializing in preparing musicians for performances, gigs, creative projects and competitions. Tess has been an active musician for 30 years, and she has taught lessons for the last 20 years. TML is a platform and community for teacher and student musicians alike to share their expertise and get plugged into the music scene.

Teaching Philosophy

At Traveling Music Lessons, the teacher/student relationship is much more than learning how to read notes on a page. A great teacher will not only provide their students with the information necessary to understand how music works, but also with opportunities to perform and showcase their skills. We hold two recitals per year encouraging everyone to get on stage and master the art of performance. Students tend to practice material they are excited about. Allowing students to learn their favorite songs is critical to continued engagement and excitement. We offer an encouraging, positive and supportive space for self-expression, and we have a ton of fun.
