Advancing Psychology as a Science & Profession
The Illinois Psychological Association (IPA) is a 501(c)(6) non-profit association and the largest professional association of psychologists in Illinois, with a membership of nearly 1,200 professionals. Established in 1936 as the "Illinois Society of Consulting Psychologists, " the IPA has been dedicated to advancing psychology as a science and profession for over eight decades. Our mission is to promote the well-being and development of all people through the advancement, promotion, and application of psychology in all its diverse branches.
IPA Member Resources
The IPA offers a wide range of resources and benefits to its members. These resources include the IPA Newsletter: "Illinois Psychologist, " which provides members with updates on the latest research, advocacy efforts, and events within the field of psychology. Additionally, members have access to the Member Directory, allowing for easy networking and collaboration with fellow professionals. The IPA also offers countless opportunities for professional growth through its Committees & Programs, Legislative Activity, and Sections.
Continuing Education and Reimbursement Tips
The IPA is committed to providing its members with the tools they need to succeed professionally. As such, we offer a variety of continuing education opportunities. These opportunities include upcoming workshops on topics such as sexual harassment prevention, dementia training, implicit bias awareness, and mandated reporting. All of these webinars are APA approved and can be used toward the 24-hour CE requirement for licensure.
Moreover, the IPA provides its members with resources and tips for navigating the often-complex world of reimbursement. We understand that obtaining reimbursement for psychological services can be a challenge, and we strive to provide our members with the guidance they need to secure appropriate payment.
Advocacy and Public Resources
The IPA is a strong advocate for the field of psychology, with a robust Legislative Activity program. We actively monitor and respond to legislation affecting the practice of psychology, working closely with policymakers and other stakeholders to ensure that the voice of psychology is heard.
In addition to our advocacy efforts, the IPA also provides a wealth of public resources on topics such as clinical psychology, prescribing psychologists, and career development. These resources are designed to educate the public and increase awareness of the important contributions that psychology makes to society.
