Our Philosophy: Honoring Our Young Children

We are guided by a strong set of beliefs that recognize the importance of early childhood as a special time of rapid growth and development. We understand that young children need knowledge, new experiences, and social interactions to develop and thrive. We also acknowledge that excessive exposure to television, computer games, and organized activities can hinder a child's natural development, leading to hurrying through childhood and resistance to learning.

Our commitment to honoring young children involves focusing on critical skills, knowledge, and experiences that prepare them for kindergarten entry. We place a strong emphasis on:

• Social-emotional skills: self-control, listening, following directions, politeness, turn-taking, basic management routines without direct supervision, and reading nonverbal language
• Communication skills: conversational tone and volume, advocacy, situation-appropriate vocabulary for expressing feelings, manners, and using language to discuss activities and events
• Self-help skills: recognizing names, respecting property, managing clothing, hand-washing, using the bathroom independently, managing snacks, tying shoes, and developing fine and gross motor skills
