Our services extend across the complete spectrum of trucking, material and container handling, storage, and logistics, all backed by the extensive experience of our dedicated staff. The journey began in 1941 when Sam J. Barranco purchased Freeport Fast Freight, Inc., laying the foundation for his family's American Dream. Through the subsequent generations, the operation has grown and evolved, expanding upon the solid base established by Sam. A significant turning point came in 1965 when sons John and Bill expanded the business into trailer leasing, further diversifying its offerings.

The year 1980 marked the official launch of Barr Freight System as a contract carrier and an authorized common carrier, specializing in handling both LTL (less-than-truckload) freight and full truckloads. John spearheaded the leasing operations, while Bill focused on strategic expansion, driving the company towards its current position as a leader in the industry.

Recognizing the burgeoning global shipping and distribution trends of the mid-1990s, Barr Freight System strategically positioned itself to capitalize on the opportunities presented by intermodal shipping. This forward-thinking approach led to becoming a U.S. Customs Bonded Freight Station and a certified U.S. Cartman, solidifying its reputation as a trusted and reliable logistics partner.

Our Strategic Home Base

Today, Barr Freight System operates from a strategically situated 200,000 square foot warehouse located in Bolingbrook, Illinois, just outside of Chicago. This modern facility is ideally suited for both short- and long-term storage, accommodating a wide range of heavy-freight materials and containers securely positioned on specialized-built chassis.
