At Short Acres Farm, we are dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where individuals of all ages and skill levels can come to learn, grow, and connect with horses. Our mission is to foster a love for horses, teach valuable life skills, and provide an opportunity for individuals to build self-confidence and personal achievement through horse riding lessons, camps, and events.

Our History

Short Acres Farm was founded by Kathryn Tilkin, who grew up on a farm located on Whidbey Island in Washington State. After obtaining a degree in Marketing Management from Calpoly San Luis Obispo, Kathryn returned to her passion for horses and dogs and eventually started her first riding stables in Renton, WA in 1991 with her husband, Dan. In 1999, they moved to the 14 acres now located in Brush Prairie, where they continue to operate the farm.

Our Services

At Short Acres Farm, we offer a variety of services designed to cater to individuals of all ages and skill levels. Our horse riding lessons are tailored to meet the unique needs and abilities of each student, providing a supportive and encouraging environment where individuals can learn and grow at their own pace. We also offer pony parties, farm kids camps, and seasonal camps, including summer horse camps, Spooktacular Camp, Holiday Camp, and Valentines Camp.

Our team at Short Acres Farm is comprised of experienced and dedicated professionals who are passionate about teaching and sharing their knowledge and love for horses with others. Our instructors are skilled in providing personalized instruction and guidance to ensure that each student receives the attention and support they need to succeed. We believe in fostering a positive and supportive environment where individuals can feel comfortable, confident, and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Our Philosophy

At Short Acres Farm, we believe that the bond between humans and horses is a unique and powerful one. Horses possess their own unique talents and personalities, and they have the ability to accept and love individuals for who they are. Through our horse riding lessons, camps, and events, we aim to help individuals build trust, self-confidence, personal achievement, and empathy, while also teaching valuable life skills such as responsibility, patience, compassion, process, and tolerance.
