Nurturing Minds, Shaping Futures
Hurley Nursery School has been a cornerstone of early childhood education in the historic town of Hurley, New York, since its founding in September 1968. As a private, non-profit, nonsectarian, and nondiscriminatory school, we are committed to fostering the emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development of every child who walks through our doors. Governed by a dedicated volunteer board of directors, we strive to create a rich and stimulating learning environment where each child can thrive at their own pace.
Our Philosophy: Learning Through Play
We believe that children naturally learn through play, and we strive to create a curriculum that embraces this philosophy. Our classrooms are filled with a variety of engaging activities and age-appropriate equipment designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning. We believe that a strong emotional foundation is essential for a child's overall development, and we aim to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere where children feel secure, valued, and confident. Our program emphasizes social skills, encouraging children to interact with their peers, build friendships, and learn to cooperate and share.
Developing Key Skills
Our curriculum is carefully designed to address four key developmental areas: emotional, social, cognitive, and physical. We understand that early childhood is a critical time for language development, and we provide abundant opportunities for children to listen to stories, engage in conversations, and practice their communication skills. Cognitive development is nurtured through hands-on activities, puzzles, and games that stimulate critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. We also place a strong emphasis on physical development, providing ample opportunities for outdoor play, gross motor activities, and fine motor skill practice.
A Rich and Varied Program
Our program offers a wide range of enriching experiences designed to engage children's minds and bodies. Each day includes a balance of active and quiet play, exploring various art forms like painting, drawing, and clay sculpting. We encourage a love of music with singing and musical instrument exploration. Our classrooms are filled with books, fostering a love of reading and storytelling. Outdoor play is an integral part of our program, allowing children to run, jump, climb, and explore in a safe and nurturing environment.
Field trips and special events provide opportunities for children to learn outside the classroom, expanding their horizons and creating lasting memories. We believe in fostering a sense of community and belonging, and we strive to create a school culture that is welcoming, inclusive, and supportive of all learners.
