Our Teacher: Brooke Morgan

Brooke Morgan, the founder of Morgan Violin Studio, has been passionate about music and teaching for over two decades. She began playing the violin at the age of eight and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Violin Performance from the Texas Tech School of Music. Brooke is currently working on a Master's Degree from the University of Maryland and has had the privilege of studying with renowned teachers such as Sally O'Reilly, John Gilbert, Jan Sloman, and Elisabeth Adkins.

Brooke's love for the Suzuki Method began when a friend recommended a training course one summer. She was immediately captivated by Dr. Suzuki's theory that every child can learn to play an instrument at a high level if instruction is modeled after the way children learn their native language. Brooke went on to receive her Suzuki certification from esteemed pedagogues Ronda Cole, Edmund Sprunger, and Ann Montzka-Smelser.

The Suzuki Approach

The Suzuki Talent Education Approach was created by Japanese violinist Shinichi Suzuki in the mid 20th century and is based on the idea that every child has the ability to become a talented musician, just as they have the ability to learn their native language. The Suzuki method emphasizes listening, repetition, and parental involvement, resulting in students who are not only talented musicians, but talented learners in a variety of subjects.

In a Suzuki lesson, students learn to play the violin by listening, imitating, and repeating. Parents of students under the age of twelve are expected to be present at each lesson and to assist with at-home practice. This ensures that students reach their full potential and develop a lifelong love of music. In addition to working on solo pieces and scales, a Suzuki lesson might include games, singing, and other activities tailored to the student's age and ability level.
