Leland Yacht Club

Leland Yacht Club, located in Leland, Michigan, is a premier sailing destination for both experienced sailors and those just beginning their sailing journey. We offer a variety of services and activities for our members and guests, including sailing lessons, racing events, and annual picnics.

Our History

Established in the early 20th century, Leland Yacht Club has a rich history of promoting sailing and fostering a sense of community among its members. Over the years, the club has grown and evolved, offering more services and activities for its members and guests.

Membership Information

Membership at Leland Yacht Club is open to individuals and families who share a love of sailing and the beautiful surroundings of Lake Leelanau. Our members enjoy access to our sailing school, racing events, annual picnics, and other activities throughout the year. Membership also includes use of our facilities, including our marina and sailing equipment.

Burgee

The Leland Yacht Club Burgee is a symbol of our club and our commitment to sailing. A burgee is a distinguishing flag, regardless of its shape, of a recreational boating organization. In most cases, they have the shape of a pennant. Yacht clubs and their members may fly their club's burgee while under way and at anchor, day or night.

Sailing School

Our sailing school is in operation from the middle of June through the middle of August and is designed to accommodate both students whose sailing interests are primarily recreational as well as those who are interested in racing. Children ages 8 to 16 are invited to participate; membership in the Leland Yacht Club is not a requirement. Instruction takes place in Butterfly boats and Flying Juniors (FJs). All of these boats are self-rescuing, and water safety is a key element in the instruction.

Our instructors have experience in working with children in addition to their sailing expertise. Many of them have been trained and certified by the US Sailing Association. Most of them are graduates of the Leland Yacht Club sailing program.

Racing Events

Leland Yacht Club offers weekly sailing races for our members and guests. These events provide an opportunity for sailors of all skill levels to compete and improve their sailing skills. Our racing events include a variety of series, such as the B-Fleet Series, the Laser Series, and the Notice of Race.

Annual Picnic

Each year, Leland Yacht Club hosts an annual picnic for our members and guests. This event is a great opportunity for us to come together as a community and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Lake Leelanau. Activities include sailing, swimming, and a barbecue, as well as games and activities for children.
