Preserving Our Clients Best Interest

Balance Rolfing & Massage Studio is a renowned establishment specializing in myofascial and Swedish massage, prenatal and postpartum massage, as well as Rolfing Structural Integration. Our studio is situated in the serene surroundings of Gardiner, New York, a location that adds to the soothing experience our clients enjoy during their sessions.

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for our clients by facilitating the release of patterns of stress and strain in the body. We believe that optimal health is achieved when the body's structure is balanced and aligned in gravity. Our approach is based on the fundamental idea that the body will receive gravitational forces optimally when it is organized around a truly vertical principle of support.

About Rolfing

Rolfing is a scientific and intuitive system of balancing the physical structure in gravity. It is named after its founder, Dr. Ida Rolf, who proposed that an optimally received gravitational force is achieved when the body is organized vertically.

The science behind Rolfing lies in its ability to reorganize the body's tissues, creating a more upright and functional alignment. With this newfound alignment, the true support of the feet, knees, pelvis, and spine becomes realized. This results in every structure above gaining support from below, and on an instinctive level, the body understands it can relax.

Changes from Rolfing are long-lasting. Much of the muscular tension we experience is due to poor structure rather than poor posture, as the word posture implies a choice. By addressing the root cause - the structure - Rolfing can significantly reduce muscular tension, leading to a more balanced and relaxed body.

Our Services

Our services at Balance Rolfing & Massage Studio include:

  • Rolfing Structural Integration: This is a holistic system of soft tissue manipulation and movement education that organizes the whole body in gravity. The goal is to sequence the body's tissues to a more optimal relationship with gravity, resulting in improved posture, reduced pain, and increased freedom of movement.
  • Deep Tissue Massage: This type of massage focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders.
  • Swedish Massage: This is a gentle yet invigorating form of bodywork that involves soft, long, kneading strokes, as well as light, rhythmic, tapping strokes on the topmost layer of muscles. It is beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, and improving circulation and flexibility.
  • Prenatal Body Work: This type of massage focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dramatic changes of pregnancy. It can help alleviate many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy such as backaches, fatigue, neck and shoulder pain, headaches, leg cramps, and swelling.
  • Postpartum Body Work: After the birth, we offer gentle yet invigorating massages tailored to the needs of the new mother. These sessions can help restore energy, soothe sore muscles, and reduce stress and anxiety.
