The Intercollegiate Equestrian Association (IEA) is dedicated to providing competitive and educational opportunities through equestrian athletics. For over 22 years, IEA has been making memories to last a lifetime for riders of all skill levels. Our mission is to foster a spirit of belongingness, an atmosphere of community enjoyment, and a mutual respect for all participants and their equine partners.

Services Offered

IEA offers a range of services including Hunt Seat, Western, and Dressage competitions. Each discipline provides riders with the opportunity to develop competitive riding skills, make lasting memories, and further their riding ability in college and beyond. Whether you're looking to join an existing team or start a new one, IEA can help you make the connections to get started on your IEA journey.

Hunt Seat

Hunt Seat is the largest discipline of the IEA, offering over-fences opportunities at every event. Riders will experience gliding through the air over obstacles on a 1,200-pound mount, a significant accomplishment that requires skill and teamwork. Each ride is performed on an unknown mount, determined by a draw-based format, making it an exciting and challenging experience.

Western

Western riding has been synonymous with ranch work for centuries. IEA's Western classes focus on reining patterns, demonstrating changes of speed with the slightest touch from the rider and the ability to stop and turn quickly. This discipline provides a strong foundation for riders, emphasizing seamless communication with the horse.

Dressage

Dressage, derived from the French word for training, fulfills its definition as youth-riders work hard to perform classic riding maneuvers. This discipline focuses on harmony between the rider and horse, guiding them through a series of predetermined movements in a rhythmic fashion. Dressage is the fastest growing IEA equestrian offering, aiming to produce a beautiful partnership between rider and horse.

Membership and Joining

IEA membership is open to riders in grades 4-12. No rider needs to own a horse to participate, making it an affordable way to participate in equestrian sport. Whether you're looking to join an existing team or start a new one, IEA can help you make the connections to get started on your IEA journey.
