Providing quality and value, one pipe at a time.
I am Laura M. Castro, a licensed clinical psychologist with over two decades of experience dedicated to providing compassionate and effective therapy for children, adolescents, adults, and families. My passion lies in creating a safe and nurturing therapeutic environment where individuals can explore their inner world, gain valuable insights into their experiences, and embark on a journey of healing and growth.
My approach to therapy is rooted in the belief that meaningful change originates from a strong therapeutic alliance built on mutual respect, empathy, and understanding. I strive to cultivate genuine connections with my patients, recognizing that the quality of our relationship is a cornerstone of successful therapy.
A Multifaceted Approach to Healing
My expertise spans a wide range of clinical presentations, including depression, anxiety, trauma exposure, and life transitions. I am trained in various therapeutic modalities, grounding my practice in trauma-informed care for young children (ages 0-6) and their caregivers. This includes specialized training in Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), a model that utilizes the unique bond between a child and their caregiver to foster healing after a traumatic event. I am also adept in integrating psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral strategies, tailoring my approach to meet the individual needs of each patient.
Beyond individual therapy, I have significant experience working with families, helping them navigate complex challenges and strengthen their connections.
A Diverse Career Path
My clinical journey has been enriched by diverse experiences working in a variety of settings. I have served as the primary mental health clinician for the Oakland Raiders for nine seasons, coordinating and teaching NFL-mandated life skills trainings to incoming rookies on a range of crucial topics such as relationship management, domestic violence prevention, stress management, decision-making, discrimination, and harassment. Currently, I am on the clinical team for the San Francisco 49ers, providing mental health services to athletes, coaching staff, as well as their families and significant others. I have also had the privilege of supervising psychology and social work interns at the Child Trauma Research Program, a testament to my commitment to mentoring the next generation of mental health professionals.
