We are a PATH Intl. Member Therapeutic Riding Center located in the beautiful town of Guilderland, NY. Our center has been a pillar in the community for over 40 years, providing therapeutic riding lessons and instruction to individuals of all ages and ability levels. Our mission is to help our students gain confidence, independence, and further physical, cognitive, and emotional development through the power of horses.

Our Services

At Albany Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc., we offer a variety of services designed to meet the individual needs of each of our students. Our therapeutic riding program uses horses as a tool for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. Our certified PATH instructors work closely with each student to create a personalized lesson plan that meets their unique needs.

In addition to our therapeutic riding program, we also offer unmounted ground programs. These programs focus on horsemanship skills, such as grooming, leading, and horse care. These programs are a great option for students who are not yet ready for mounted therapy or who enjoy working with horses on the ground.

Our Facility

Our new facility in Guilderland, NY is a state-of-the-art therapeutic riding center. We have a large indoor riding arena, a spacious outdoor arena, and a number of smaller riding areas for individual lessons. We also have a variety of horses, all of whom are gentle and well-trained. Our facility is powered primarily by volunteers, who help with horse care, leading, and side-walking during lessons.

Our History

Albany Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc. was founded in 1981 by Chris Lehman. Chris was the heart and soul of our center, serving as the board president and a PATH Certified Riding Instructor for over 30 years. Sadly, Chris passed away in early 2017, but her legacy lives on through the work we do at ATRC. Our center was the first therapeutic riding center in the area and has been serving the Greater Capital District area for over 40 years.
