Mandarin Kung Fu is a martial arts school established in 1974, located in Buffalo, NY. We are dedicated to providing traditional Shaolin Temple Kung Fu training to serious-minded students, regardless of their prior martial arts experience. Our school prides itself on its hard training philosophy, which emphasizes the importance of training hard and practicing diligently.

Our classes are small, allowing us to provide personal attention to all of our students, and are taught by adult instructors who are passionate about martial arts. We offer separate adult and youth classes, and our entire curriculum is included in our weekly fee, which is very low and includes lower family rates (per person). We also provide separate clean changing facilities for men and women.

Services Offered

At Mandarin Kung Fu, we offer traditional kung fu training, self-defense instruction, and physical and mental development. Our training includes:

  • Basic Training: We focus on hard horse stances, which develop a solid foundation for powerful techniques and provide your legs with the strength to move your body swiftly. We also emphasize habitual practice of basic blocking, punching, and kicking techniques, which assist in teaching and developing proper breathing, flexibility, agility, speed, power, focus, mind control, and endurance.
  • Form Training: Our forms training includes solo or empty-hand forms, single and multiple animal forms, two-man contact sets, and solo and contact weapon forms. Forms training assists in teaching, developing, and understanding the fundamentals designated in basic training and teaches how and when a movement can be changed in a real-time scenario.
  • Private Lessons: We offer free private lessons for all new students, allowing us to provide personalized attention and tailor our training to each student's individual needs and abilities.

Training Principles

Our school is founded on the principle of hard training. Every class stresses the importance of training hard and practicing diligently. Our art's heart is the basic training, while the soul is the form training. It is only through the mastery of the heart and soul that we are able to begin mastering our art. One must have great patience and determination to excel in Mandarin Kung Fu.

We believe that the mastery of basic training is essential to the art of kung fu. Hard stances are fundamental in developing the solid foundation and strength necessary to execute powerful techniques. Regular practice of hand and foot techniques is crucial in teaching and developing the fundamentals regularly, including proper breathing, flexibility, fluidity, speed, power, focus, mind control, and endurance.

Form training is the perfect union of our art. Forms act as an encyclopedia of our art, and consistent repetition of all the forms in our system ensures reviewing specific movements that may not be covered in class on a regular basis. Forms serve to identify our style with people acquainted with the martial arts. Form training is a means that masters use to pass on their art.

At Mandarin Kung Fu, we focus on developing the movements in our forms to a level of expertise that will prevent you from getting hit. Our forms are performed at fighting speed with maximum focus and power. Every form in our system is designed to train a specific concept or a group of concepts, and the goal of the form is not to learn the form, but how to apply, modify and adapt the movements in the form in a realistic combat environment.
