Empowering individuals through martial arts
For over five decades, Kokushi Budo Institute has been dedicated to providing a comprehensive and inclusive martial arts education to individuals of all ages and skill levels. Established in 1963 by Nobuyoshi Higashi, a renowned judo pioneer, our institute has a rich history of fostering a strong sense of community and encouraging personal growth through the practice of martial arts.
Our History
The journey of Kokushi Budo Institute begins in the Kumamoto region of Japan, where Nobuyoshi Higashi was born in 1937. As a young boy, Nobuyoshi was deeply involved in martial arts, training diligently in the morning after helping his family with their rice farm. This discipline and dedication were instilled in him by his family, who believed in the importance of combining martial arts with formal education.
Under the guidance of Hikoichi Aida, a top student of Jigoro Kano, the founder of judo, Nobuyoshi developed his skills as a judoka. Aida Sensei was an internationally recognized expert in judo, and Kano Sensei took him to Europe to teach. This technical lineage can be traced back to Kano Sensei and Aida Sensei, making Kokushi Budo Institute a testament to the rich history of martial arts.
