Kersten Lumber Co

Established in 1938, Kersten Lumber Co has grown from a small sawmill in Wittenberg, WI, into a forward-thinking lumber production company based in Birnamwood. Our founders, Roy Kersten and his sons Dick and Phil 'Butch,' rebuilt the business after a devastating fire in 1977, investing in state-of-the-art equipment to ensure long-term resilience. Over decades, we expanded operations to include dry kilns, planing, ripping, and colored mulch production for landscaping, supported by our own trucking fleet and logging operations. Our commitment to sustainability drives every decision, with a zero-waste policy that repurposes bark, chips, and sawdust into secondary products like beauty bark, biofuel, and paper fiber. Partnering with Woodstock Flooring & Design Center, we extend our expertise to flooring solutions, offering hardwood, tile, carpet, and countertops.

With deep roots in Wisconsins forestry heritage, we prioritize renewable resource management, actively participating in reforestation efforts that plant five trees for every one harvested. Our team combines generational knowledge with modern technology to deliver high-quality lumber from species like Hard Maple, Red Oak, and White Oak, alongside specialty woods such as Birds Eye Maple. Transparency and environmental stewardship guide our operations, ensuring clients receive durable, eco-conscious building materials. As a family-owned business, we remain dedicated to community partnerships and innovative practices that balance industry needs with ecological responsibility.
