Designing Your Vision, Inspecting Your Future
Welcome to Chico Montessori Children's House, where we have been providing high-quality Montessori education to preschool children in Chico, CA for over 48 years. Established in 1973, our school has a long history of nurturing and developing young minds, giving them a bright start to their education and life. Our mission is to provide a prepared environment that encourages children to become confident, independent, and responsible individuals. We are proud to have served over 3,000 students in our community and to have played a role in their successful development.
Our History
Chico Montessori Children's House began as a single preschool class in a classroom leased from Bidwell Presbyterian Church. The program quickly took root in the community and grew to include an afternoon class in 1981 and four classes in 1985. In 1992, the school acquired and renovated the property at 814 Glenn Street, where we are currently located. Our two spacious classrooms accommodate four classes of 24 students each throughout the traditional school year and two classes during the summer session.
Our Campus
Our campus features tall windows along each classroom, providing ample natural light throughout the building. We have a full kitchen, a nap room, an administrative office space, and two parent observation rooms. Our indoor environment is designed for children, with counters, sinks, tables, and shelves all sized for them. We have a modern playground built in 2001 and two raised garden beds where children can experience vegetable and flower gardening. Our property's front landscaping includes a playful path of stepping stones leading to and from the school gates.
The Montessori Method
The Montessori Method of education is a child-centered approach that emphasizes the potential of the young child. It was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, Italy's first female doctor and an early advocate of children's rights. The Montessori Method is based on the belief that children need to acquire basic skills before participating in a competitive learning situation. It is an approach to education that emphasizes the potential of the young child and develops this potential in a prepared environment with the aid of specially trained teachers and uniquely designed learning materials.
Our Staff
Our team of dedicated teachers has over 60 years of combined experience working with children in the Montessori setting. They bring a unique, compassionate, and trained level of education to the classroom. Our teachers are committed to nurturing and developing the whole child, providing a solid foundation for their future academic and personal success.
