History of Winderlea
Founded in 2006 by Bill Sweat and Donna Morris, Winderlea Vineyard & Winery is the culmination of a long-held passion for Pinot noir and a deep appreciation for the wines of the Dundee Hills. After falling in love with Pinot noir in the early 90s, Bill and Donna found themselves drawn to the wines of the Dundee Hills, with their elegant and sensual character and beautiful pairing with food. In 2006, they relocated from Boston and made the Dundee Hills their home, launching Winderlea and committing themselves to the traditions of responsible stewardship of the land and the highest quality artisan winemaking.
The Name Winderlea
The name Winderlea, pronounced Win-dur-lee, is a made-up word with a bit of history. It is the name of a Vermont property purchased by Bill and Donna in 2001, named by the Gerard Family who owned, loved, and nurtured the land for over 60 years. The word Winderlea was crafted by combining the word, "Wind, " with the word "Lea, " meaning meadow or pasture, creating a word evoking the meaning "Wind in the Meadow."
