Frederick's Premier Rock Climbing Facility
Founded in 2018, The Boulder Yard was created to establish a community-focused rock climbing facility in Frederick, MD. Our founder, Steve Baranski, envisioned a space that diverges from the impersonal atmosphere of large chain gyms, prioritizing a supportive environment built by climbers for climbers. Over several months, Steve and his team handcrafted an 8,000 sq ft facility featuring 3,500 sq ft of climbing surface with diverse wall angles and overhangs. Our mission extends beyond physical fitnesswe cultivate a tight-knit community through weekly climbing problem resets, monthly skills clinics, and organized outdoor climbing trips.

With certified instructors and structured programs for all ages, we emphasize technical skill development, mental resilience, and injury prevention. Our facility includes specialized training zones, a martial arts/yoga studio, and dedicated youth areas. By maintaining rigorous climbing route difficulty standards that mirror outdoor conditions, we prepare climbers for real-world challenges while fostering a welcoming atmosphere for beginners and experts alike.
