Serious bakers. Serious about making an impact
Our Story
At Grand Central Bakery, our story began over three decades ago with a simple yet ambitious idea: to bring artisanal bread-making to the Pacific Northwest. Founded in 1989 by Gwen Bassetti, our bakery has grown from a small operation in historic Pioneer Square to a beloved institution in Portland and Seattle. Our passion for traditional techniques, commitment to locally sourced ingredients, and dedication to the best flavor have made us a staple in the community.
Our Philosophy
At Grand Central Bakery, we believe in the power of food to bring people together. We strive to create an unparalleled bakery experience that not only satisfies our customers' taste buds but also fosters a sense of community. Our artisanal breads, pastries, and sandwiches are baked with love and care, reflecting our commitment to quality and sustainability.
Our Sourcing
We take pride in sourcing the finest ingredients from local farmers and suppliers, ensuring that every bite of our products is not only delicious but also sustainable. This commitment to local sourcing supports our community and helps preserve the region's agricultural heritage.
Our B Corps Certification
As the first Certified B Corporation bakery in the Pacific Northwest, we are committed to making a positive impact on our community. Our B Corp certification demonstrates our commitment to transparency, fairness, and social responsibility. We believe that by operating with integrity and transparency, we can create a better future for our customers, employees, and the environment.
Our Community Involvement
At Grand Central Bakery, we believe in giving back to the community that supports us. We partner with local nonprofits and charities, providing grants, employee volunteer opportunities, and in-kind donations to support immigrant rights, diversity and inclusion, and land stewardship initiatives. Our commitment to social responsibility and community engagement is at the heart of everything we do.
