The School for Strings, founded in 1970 by Louise Behrend, is a premiere Suzuki-based music school in New York, dedicated to providing comprehensive instrumental instruction in violin, cello, and piano to students of all ages and skill levels. Our Programs
The School for Strings offers a range of programs designed to meet the diverse needs of our students. Our Instrumental Programs include private lessons, group classes, music theory, orchestra, and ensemble classes, as well as a special Parent Class for beginners. Our Teacher Training Program offers Suzuki-based pedagogy seminars in violin, cello, and piano, providing comprehensive training for aspiring music educators. Our Early Childhood Program introduces children to instruments, rhythmic games, and movement, preparing them for future instrumental study. Our Start Up Program offers an opportunity for in-depth introductory study in violin, cello, or piano at a nominal cost.
