Empowering individuals to live life to its fullest potential
Our Mission and History
At Opportunity Music Project, our mission is to provide the opportunity for all children, regardless of economic background, to pursue their passion for music, gain valuable personal and collaborative skills associated with the rigors of learning an instrument, and be engaged in an inclusive community. We believe that every child deserves access to high-quality music education, regardless of their economic background or zip code.
We were founded over a decade ago by Jessica Garand, who was struck by the lack of economic and racial diversity prevalent in classical music during her time as a student at The Juilliard School in New York City. Since then, we have dedicated ourselves to providing thousands of hours of music education to students aged 5 to 18 who may not otherwise have access to these opportunities.
Our Programs
At Opportunity Music Project, we offer a range of programs designed to provide high-quality music education to our students. Our programs include:
Private Lessons: We offer private lessons with experienced and qualified music teachers, tailored to the individual needs and goals of each student.
Orchestra Training: Our orchestra training program provides students with the opportunity to work together as an ensemble, learning the skills necessary to perform as a cohesive unit.
Composition Lab: Our composition lab provides students with the opportunity to explore their creativity and learn the skills necessary to write their own music.
Mentorship Programs: We offer mentorship programs, where our students can work one-on-one with experienced music professionals to gain valuable guidance and support.
Music Education for All: We believe that music education should be accessible to all, regardless of economic background or zip code. That's why we offer 100% full scholarships to all of our students, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn and grow through music.
