At Hu Shin Kai Karate, we are proud to be the oldest authentic Shotokan Karate dojo in Chicago. Our mission is to provide a traditional and comprehensive karate training experience that focuses not only on physical techniques, but also on mental discipline, character development, and cultural awareness. Our dojo is led by Toshihide "Tony" Nakamura Sensei, a Japanese national and former US national team member who has dedicated his career to the development of karate practitioners.
Our Story
Our story began when Master Gichin Funakoshi founded Shotokan Karate in Japan in the early 20th century. With a lifelong commitment to the art, Sensei Funakoshi dedicated himself to the development of karate, and his students respectfully began calling his style "Shotokan" Karate. In 2021, Sensei Nakamura founded Hu Shin Kai Karate, with a goal to provide authentic Japanese Karate from Japan. Our dojo is dedicated to the original philosophy and principles of Shotokan Karate, and we strive to maintain the highest standards of instruction and training.
Our Services
