Illuminating the path to sustainable design

At SYMPHYSIS, we specialize in solar access and shading impact analysis, catering to a diverse range of clients including architecture firms and residential owners. Our services are designed to provide in-depth analyses of solar access and shading issues on properties, photovoltaic systems, or compliance with San Francisco's Section 295 Sunlight Ordinance. Additionally, we offer residential title-24 energy code compliance calculations, consulting on site and climate analyses, daylighting and glare assessment for residential and commercial buildings, building performance specifications, and system optimizations.

Our expertise extends to bioclimatic design, which involves using various tools such as Geographic Information System (GIS), climate data, and Building Performance Analysis software to inform the design at its earliest phase. This approach enables us to minimize the energy demands of a building by adapting it to its climatic environment and other ecological forces. By understanding these complex factors, we can establish performance specifications and integrate them within the design process concurrently with the spatial and functional programs of the project.

Meet the Team

Our founder, Olivier A. Pennetier, has been consulting for architects since 2003. He has extensive experience in bioclimatic design solutions, site and climate analyses, shading impact reports, daylighting, solar stress mitigation, and passive design strategies. Olivier holds a B.S. in Environmental Science from CAL POLY Humboldt State University, a Master in Architecture from the University of Hawaii, and is a LEED accredited professional, Certified Energy Analyst (CEA), and member of the California Association of Building Energy Consultants (CABEC).
