Experience the ultimate coastal retreat

At Legal Assistance to the Elderly (LAE), our mission is to protect and advance the rights of San Francisco's seniors and adults with disabilities to be housed, healthy, financially stable, and safe. We believe that every individual deserves access to comprehensive legal services, regardless of their background or financial situation. Our organization is committed to providing high-quality, free legal representation to those in need, with a focus on addressing the specific challenges faced by seniors and adults with disabilities in our community.

Our Services

At LAE, we offer a range of services designed to meet the unique needs of our clients. Our practice areas include:

  • Housing Preservation: We provide representation to tenants facing eviction, illegal rent increases, denials of reasonable accommodations, and other housing issues.
  • Elder Abuse Prevention: We work with elders who are victims of physical or financial abuse, providing them with legal support and guidance to help them regain control of their lives.
  • Benefits Advocacy: Our team helps elders facing a decrease or denial of income benefits, such as SSI and SSDI, to navigate the complex process of obtaining the benefits they need.
  • End of Life Planning: We offer simple wills, trusts, and other end-of-life planning assistance to elders and disabled adults who need help ensuring their wishes are respected.
  • Healthcare Advocacy: We provide representation to elders and disabled adults facing denial of coverage for Medicare/Medi-Cal, inappropriate hospital or rehabilitation facility discharge, or other healthcare services denials.
  • Consumer Debt Defense: Our team works with elders and disabled adults experiencing consumer or debt collection problems, helping them to negotiate and resolve their debts.
  • Foreclosure Prevention: We provide legal services to homeowners who are seniors or adults living with disabilities who are behind on paying the mortgage or property taxes and/or facing another foreclosure-related legal issue.

In addition to our practice areas, we also offer specialized services through our Excelsior Legal Collaborative (ELC). This collaborative program, developed in partnership with Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Asian Law Caucus, Jubilee Immigration Advocates, and Excelsior Works!, provides legal services to residents of San Francisco's Supervisor District 11.
