Holistic Mental Health Care & Recovery Programs
Founded on the belief that psychiatric recovery is possible, Windhorse Integrative Mental Health has provided holistic, compassionate care for 30 years. Our mindfulness-informed clinical teams and therapeutic households create a supportive environment where clients rebuild their lives with dignity and independence. We prioritize authentic relationships as the foundation of healing, offering over 40 hours weekly of one-on-one support tailored to individual needs. With three community-integrated locations in Northampton, MA; San Luis Obispo, CA; and Portland, OR, we foster recovery through neighborhood-based living and a therapeutic community. Our approach, rooted in the Windhorse philosophy developed by Dr. Edward Podvoll, combines contemplative psychology with modern mental health practices to address the whole personbody, mind, and spirit.

We serve adults experiencing extreme mental health challenges, emphasizing personalized care that transcends traditional diagnostic labels. Recognized for our innovative model, we maintain partnerships with Naropa University and have trained clinicians globally. Our commitment to transparency, ethical care, and measurable outcomes has helped hundreds achieve sustainable recovery. We operate as a nonprofit organization, ensuring accessibility through flexible admissions and limited financial assistance. By prioritizing human connection over institutionalization, we empower clients to reconnect with their communities and rediscover purpose.

Services
Therapeutic Households
Clients live in community-based homes with therapeutic housemates who provide daily support. This model fosters independence while maintaining structured care. Housemates help with routine tasks and emotional support, creating a stable environment for recovery.
One-on-One Clinical Support
Over 40 weekly hours of individualized clinical attention from multidisciplinary teams. Services include psychotherapy, wellness planning, and crisis management tailored to each client's evolving needs through dynamic team collaboration.
Environmental Therapy
Our approach recognizes how physical and social environments impact mental health. We create healing spaces in homes, communities, and natural settings to support clients' reconnection with their surroundings and daily life activities.
Basic Attendance
A core practice involving shared daily activities like cooking or walking. This compassionate, human-to-human interaction builds trust and connection through consistent, mindful presence in everyday situations.
Community Integration
Clients participate in local communities through volunteer work, recreational activities, and social events. This builds meaningful connections and practical skills while reducing isolation through gradual reintegration.
