Services Offered

At Balowitz Psychotherapy, I specialize in providing evidence-based, solution-focused therapy for depression, anxiety, panic, and worry. I work with a diverse range of clients, including those experiencing life transitions, grief and loss, self-esteem concerns, and relationship difficulties. My goal is to help you build on your strengths and achieve your personal goals by providing support, feedback, and a variety of therapeutic techniques tailored to your unique situation.

Individual Counseling: I offer individual counseling for adults facing a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, and self-esteem concerns. I use a collaborative approach to help you understand your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and develop coping strategies and skills to manage life's challenges.

Couples Counseling: In couples counseling, I work with you and your partner to improve communication, build trust, and deepen your connection. I provide a safe and neutral space for you to explore and address relationship issues, conflict, and patterns that may be causing distress. My aim is to help you build a stronger, healthier relationship based on mutual respect, understanding, and love.

Family Counseling: Family counseling is a collaborative process that involves all members of the family. I provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment for families to address conflicts, improve communication, and strengthen relationships. Whether you are dealing with a specific issue or seeking to enhance your family's overall functioning, I can help you develop the skills and strategies needed to build a stronger, more cohesive family unit.

Telehealth Virtual Sessions: I also offer telehealth virtual sessions for clients who prefer the convenience and flexibility of meeting from the comfort of their own home. These sessions are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform and are just as effective as in-person sessions.

Reviews
Positive: Despite some initial success, the negative experiences far outweighed the positive, and it seems the majority of reviewers did not find Barbara's approach helpful or effective.
Negative: A common theme among the reviews was Barbara's lack of understanding, judgmental behavior, and unprofessional treatment of clients, leading to a high level of dissatisfaction and distrust.

Overwhelmingly Negative Experiences

Many reviewers shared negative experiences with Barbara, the marriage counselor. Common criticisms include:

  • Lack of probing or attention to the underlying issues in relationships
  • Judgmental responses and belittling behavior towards clients
  • Ignoring the problems of certain family members (such as children) and pushing for involvement of others (such as abusive partners)
  • Jumping to conclusions and prescribing pills without thorough understanding of clients' problems
  • Being overly controlling and decisive without sufficient information

Only a few reviewers had positive experiences, such as:

  • Initial Success: Karen Shadle had a good experience with Barbara six years ago, who identified her depression and encouraged her to speak up. However, subsequent sessions did not go as well, and Barbara allowed Karen's husband to dominate the conversations.

Despite these mixed experiences, there were some common complaints:

Lack of Profound Understanding: Reviewers felt that Barbara didn't delve deep enough to understand their relationship issues, instead relying on surface-level conversations.

Unprofessional Behavior: Several reviewers felt belittled, ignored, or judged by Barbara, which damaged their trust in her and the counseling process.

Failure to Individualize Approach: Reviewers felt that Barbara didn't take the time to understand their unique situations and instead pushed a one-size-fits-all approach.

Unintelligent and Incompetent Treatment: Some reviewers felt that Barbara's methods were unprofessional and ineffective, such as prescribing individual counseling without sufficient evidence.

Unreliability: Many reviewers did not return for further sessions due to their negative experiences, suggesting that Barbara's methods may not be trustworthy.
