At Buffalo Conrail Federal Credit Union, we have been dedicated to serving our members for over 80 years. Our journey began on January 13th, 1936, when a group of New York Central Railroad employees in Buffalo, NY, initiated the establishment of the New York Central System Employees Buffalo Federal Credit Union. This was made possible by the Federal Credit Union Act enacted by the U.S. Congress on June 26th, 1934. The primary goal of this act was to provide a national system of cooperative credit, thereby helping to stabilize the credit structure of the United States.

Our founding members, led by Mr. Thomas A. Mahoney, recognized the importance of providing affordable credit options for people of small means. They were committed to creating a cooperative financial institution that would serve the financial needs of its members. Mr. Mahoney, who was chosen as the first president, led the Credit Union for twenty years until his promotion to an official position by the New York Central to East Rochester, NY.

In the early years, our office was located at Central Terminal Building, Buffalo, New York. The Credit Union started with sixteen subscribers who subscribed to shares, from one share to twenty shares. Over the years, we have grown and expanded our services to better serve our members. In 1986, we changed our name to Buffalo Conrail Federal Credit Union to reflect our expanded field of membership.

Today, we continue to operate under the same principles of cooperation and mutual aid that guided our founding members. We are dedicated to providing our members with competitive rates, convenient services, and personalized attention.
