Bringing HOPE and CONNECTION to Care Center Residents

Nursing Home Ministries, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) religious organization that has been dedicated to glorifying God by taking His Word and His love to the care centers and long-term care facilities across the United States. Our ministry has a rich history that dates back to 1975 when it was incorporated by a group of visionary individuals, including Rev. Paul Sweeney, Rev. Leonard Martin, and Rev. Franklin Dodson.

Our Founders

Our founders recognized the need for chaplains to serve care center residents in the local Portland, Oregon area. At the time, churches were providing weekend services, but rarely ministering to individual residents. This sparked the inception of Nursing Home Ministries, which aimed to bridge this gap. Today, we have evolved to become a nationwide ministry, serving over 6,000 care center residents weekly.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide spiritual care to the residents of care centers and long-term care facilities. We believe that every individual, regardless of age or physical ability, deserves to have their spiritual needs met. Our chaplains work closely with the staff and management of each facility to ensure that our message is consistent and impactful.

Our Services

Traditionally, our chaplains hold short chapel services during the week, singing hymns and presenting a short devotional from the Word of God. These services often include fellowship time before and after each service, allowing residents to connect with one another. We also have chaplains who serve in assisted living facilities and retirement communities on weekends.

Our Chaplains

Our chaplains are trained individuals who have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and are active in a local church. Each chaplain is commissioned by our Board of Directors through a normal process of application and review. Our chaplains are commissioned to minister to the residents of care centers and long-term care facilities, providing spiritual care and support to those who need it most.

Our Reach

Currently, we have 160 active commissioned chaplains serving in 145 nursing facilities across 16 states. We are proud to report that God has honored our ministry with 713 first-time decisions for Christ as Lord and Savior of their lives during the past 56 months. We praise God for the fruit of our labor and for the opportunity to serve those in need.

Our Goals

Our goal is to provide spiritual care to the residents of care centers and long-term care facilities across the United States. We aim to glorify God by taking His Word and His love to these facilities, and to provide a message of hope and encouragement to those who need it most. We believe that every individual deserves to have their spiritual needs met, and we are committed to making a difference in the lives of those we serve.
